6 Fun High Protein Ready to Eat Trail Snacks
Hiking is an endurance sport, especially if you’re getting some serious miles and elevation in! Hitting the trail can exert a lot of energy, so properly fueling is key. One of the ways to do that is ensuring you being along snacks with enough protein.
Protein is an essential component of a healthy diet. It is comprised of chemical building blocks known as amino acids, which are used by your body to repair and build muscles and bones, synthesize hormones and enzymes, and function as an energy source.
But snacks are also one of the most fun and exciting parts of hiking adventures! You can meet the goals, feel good and still eat fun, convenient foods. So, I’ve complied this list of 6 high protein and FUN snacks to pack for your next trek!

Definitely a trail snack you can feel good about! Each 37 g bar comes in at 130 calories 0g of sugar 1g carbs 12g of protein and 9g of fat. These are a unique product. I will say the texture takes some getting used to, it’s a ground meat jerky product. I’ve made jerky like this and it has a little softer bite and may be a bit on the dry side. The ingredient list is very simple too. The company makes bars and meat strips out of a variety of proteins, including chicken, bison, and beef, the venison happens to be the highest protein count. The chicken sriracha is very tasty if wild game is not your jam!
Ingredients: grass fed venison, sea salt, encapsulated lactic acid (not derived from milk), water, black pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, and celery powder.
2. Lenny and Larry The Complete Cookie Chocolate Chip
Who doesn’t love a chocolate chip cookie? You won’t believe this one has 16g of plant protein! 420 calories 12g of fat, 59g carbs 10g fiber and 25g sugar. Each cookie is technically half a serving but you’ll need the extra fuel when you’re tearing up the trail or have a snack troll demanding their toll along for the ride. The company makes other cookies as well, the snickerdoodle is also fabulous!

If you’re looking for something plant based and low in sugar these crispy bars may be the treat you’re seeking! Available in three mouthwatering flavors Lemon Coconut, Peanut Butter Chocolate, and Dark Chocolate Almond (the Dark Chocolate Almond is my favorite) Super crispy and a fantastic texture for a protein bar. They offer 12g od protein, 2g of sugar and 7g of fiber. The Lemon Coconut comes in at 150 calories, the Dark Chocolate Almond 160 calories, and Peanut Butter Chocolate 170 calories.
